Celebrating MLK Jr.

Once again, so sorry I haven't been posting much. It's been a hard semester so far. I'm looking forward to Spring Break. My kinders are wearing me out! Anybody else have kiddos whose behavior just took a nosedive after the break? I feel like we've gone back to square one! This job sure does require patience!

Even though it's been hard these past few weeks, we still have gotten a lot of awesome learning in! A few weeks ago we learned all about Martin Luther King Jr. using my MLK Jr. unit. It always amazed me how compassionate young kids are and how they are so sad about how life used to be in our country just a few decades ago. They really enjoyed learning about Dr. King.

We started reading a lot of books about Dr. King. We talked about what a biography is and what we learned about him from each book. We also read several books about President Barack Obama. We talked about how Dr. King's hard work made it possible for President Obama to become the first African American president. We then filled out webs about each of them to show what we learned.

We also read a book about Dr. King from my unit and the kids colored and filled out their own book about what they learned.

We also created a class book where each student got choose one thing about Dr. King to write about:

Finally we did a cute craft where they kids painted the world and colored a heart. On the heart they wrote one way they can make the world a better place:

There are also a few Black History Month activities in my unit so if you are interested in my unit, check it out by clicking on the picture below.

I also just updated my presidents' unit. It has lots of fun activities about our presidents and is perfect for Preisident's Day. Click on the picture to check it out!

Hmm...Cay, that is strange. If you can't get it to print, let me know what your email is and I can email you the unit and see if that helps.
